Women Make the News 2018
Women Makes the News is a global initiative first celebrated in 2000, aimed at fixing global attention on an issue relating to gender equality in and through the media, driving debate and encouraging action-oriented solutions until global objectives are met.
Is a platform that contributes to challenging gender stereotypes in the media and inspiring a new generation of men and women that contribute to efforts towards greater women’s empowerment and gender equality in the media.
Within the context of the celebration of the 2018 International Women’s Day, UNESCO and UN Women have partnered with Media Ink, a local media development NGO based in Hargeisa, Somaliland, to produce short videos featuring female journalists in Somalia talking about their encounter with gender stereotyping in their daily media work, and what they have done to challenge such stereotypes.
